Naples is an island in Alamitos Bay in Long Beach, California and among the most affluent neighborhoods in Long Beach. It is interwoven with charming flower-lined walkways and canals with 5 Venetian-inspired bridges arching over them. Facing the waterways are luxury homes in a wide range of styles from boldly contemporary to New England shingle-style.
This island is, of course, a man-made creation — but beautifully so.
The Peninsula faces both ocean and bay
Across from Naples is the Peninsula neighborhood, a narrow strip of land fronting the ocean on one side, Alamitos Bay on the other. It is the southern-most neighborhood in Long Beach and Los Angeles County. The Alamitos Bay Yacht Club is located at the very end of Ocean Blvd. on the Peninsula.
Traditionally, homes on the Peninsula were shingle-style — like beach cottages found all around the country. But in recent years million-dollar mansions have replaced many of these cottages facing the ocean.
Some sail, some paddle, some putter along in boats on Alamitos Bay. The Yacht Club is on the right in this photo. Parts of Belmont Shore face directly onto Alamitos Bay, too. Then there are the newer neighborhoods of Bay Harbour and Spinnaker Coves where large contemporary “California Spanish” style million-dollar homes are nestled together in village-like gated communities. As in Naples, some of these homes have docks right outside the door.
If a condo is more your style, there are condos with docks outside the door in nearby Marina Pacifica, yet another neighborhood facing onto Alamitos Bay.
There are also beachfront condos that face onto the sand on the 7 mile long beach that gives the city its name.
