In the early 20th Century Long Beach was a destination resort, a place to escape the summer heat of Los Angeles. Some homes in the now affluent Belmont Heights and adjacent neighborhoods were originally built as cottages by the summer visitors. By the 1920s homes in Belmont Heights and nearby neighborhoods began to be built as permanent year ’round residences as the local oil fields were developed.
Call it “Bungalow Heaven”
Many homes are in the California Craftsman Bungalow style. You will also find Spanish Revival and Mediterranean homes as well as charming cottage style houses along the tree-lined streets in Belmont Heights. Many people consider Belmont Heights to be among the most desirable in Long Beach. It is adjacent to the beach without being inundated with tourists in summer.
Neighborhood shopping and dining on Broadway
Waiting for Sunday brunch at a local café that has been a Belmont Heights favorite literally for decades. Along Broadway there are also a number of coffee houses, restaurants and small, locally owned shops of all kinds.
Belmont Heights is less congested and significantly quieter than Belmont Shore or Naples Island and within a few minutes walk to the beach.
A few blocks to the west of Belmont Heights is the charming, small neighborhood of Carroll Park which also has many bungalow homes. Yet another neighborhood filled with bungalows is Rose Park Historic District.
Belmont Shore stops at Broadway where the narrow Bluff Park neighborhood begins. In Bluff Park estate size homes are significantly grander and more architecturally distinguished. See the Bluff Park neighborhoods and homes here.
